The Garden Club gears up for its 53rd Flower Show and its 60th Anniversary

The Garden Club of Grand Cayman is in the final preparations of its 53rd Standard Flower Show and 60th Anniversary celebration. The event is to be held on the 31st March and the 1st April at the South Sound Community Centre and the members are looking forward to welcoming entries from the general public.

President, Ora Hollebon is particularly delighted with the efforts from her team “I hope this will be one of our greatest flower shows yet. We want to celebrate the natural beauty of our sun drenched islands and what it has to offer. We want our wonderful community to be inspired and excited by our show and we encourage new members and supporters to join.”

Combined with a plant sale of a wide variety of native trees, shrubs and flowers, the show is sure to encourage many visitors.

Specific categories for this event include Table Designs (Functional and Exhibition), Miniature and Small Designs, Cut Horticultural Specimens, Artistic Designs, Educational and Youth Exhibits.

Many of the exhibits can be created with everyday objects and, of course, beautiful flowers from gardens. Pieces of driftwood, and other items found on our shores, can be used to provide stunning backdrops and additions to a floral arrangement.

Caroline Johnston, Publicity Chairman for the Flower Show, is hoping that the show will enthuse children. With the support of Vigoro Nurseries, the Youth Exhibits are open to anyone aged 18 and under, and entries will be split further into age groups. By offering a sensational theme of Miniature Gardens; incorporating native plants and beautiful accessories to further enhance the children’s creations, she is hoping for record entries!

“VIGORO has allowed us to use images of their own miniature gardens as examples for the children. They have also offered discounts on the miniature accessories, which are available in their stores, in the run up to the competition. From tiny pagodas, to deckchairs and sun loungers, children can encapsulate their own creativity and nurture their designs for months to come.”

The pre-registration deadline for all entries is Friday, 10th March. Further information can be obtained from Ora at 9255531 or Joyce at 9299979. Details can also be viewed at www.caymangardenclub.com.
